Question: A Teacher or a Learner?

It was my 1st day at work. Everything seemed all new to me.

Of course, everything was indeed new to me because I am no longer a teacher… in the classroom… with my lesson plan on one hand… and with a box of chalk on the other.

Of course, everything was indeed new to me because I am now a child care provider… not in the classroom… without a lesson plan on one hand… and without a box of chalk on the other.

Of course, everything is all new to me now because I am not a teacher but a child care provider… with a different job description… with a different approach to teaching and learning process… and with some reservations.

It was my predicament more than 3 years ago. It is still my predicament today. And I believe that it will still be my predicament in the near future.

I mentioned many times that I miss the classroom. I miss teaching. I miss my students. But I am a child care provider now. So what’s the difference?

Didn’t I deal with children too? Didn’t I teach them something too? Didn’t I prepare some sort of a lesson plan too? Didn’t I provide them with some learning experiences as well?

School has just started and our Child Care program is in full blast. The feeling is the same. The expectations are varied. And the transition is somewhat overwhelming.

It has been a really long year for me. But I am beginning to love every minute of it. I love my work as a Child Care provider. And I enjoy my job because I don’t need to be just a teacher but a learner as well.
